Galway Cathedral is the seat of the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Galway, Kilmacduagh & Kilfenora. The word "cathedral" is derived from the Greek "kathedra", meaning a seat; and indeed this seat is to be found within the sanctuary of the Cathedral.

Visitors are always welcome at Galway Cathedral. There is no admission charge, but we ask a donation of €3 from all visitors; this helps with the ongoing upkeep of the building. Groups do not need to book in advance. unless they are seeking to celebrate mass (see below).

Mass is currently streamed from the Cathedral at the following times:Sunday: 9:00am (Gaeilge), 10:30am, 12:30pm and 6:00pmMonday-Saturday: 11:00am & 6:00pmGuided Holy Hour: Mondays at 8:00pm.Our YouTube channel also hosts a variety of items.

Oct 20, 2024 · CATHEDRAL NEWS Croí Concert — The London Welsh Male Voice Choir give a concert in the Cathedral on Saturday 16 November at 7:30pm, with all proceeds in aid of Croí. Tickets cost €30 and are available online - scan the QR code on the posters at the Cathedral doors, or follow the link from the Cathedral website.
