Gwydir Forest, also spelled Gwydyr, is located in Conwy county borough and the Snowdonia National Park in Wales. It takes its name from the ancient Gwydir Estate, established by the John Wynn family of Gwydir Castle , which owned this area.

Gwydir Forest Park lies in the heart of the Eryri National Park and encircles the village of Betws-y-coed. Lead and zinc mining once dominated the area and the legacy of old engine-houses, waste tips and reservoirs are characteristic features of the forest landscape today.

Situated on the hills to the east of Mount Snowdon, the dense and extensive Gwydir Forest, covering 7,250 ha., rises from the the Conwy Valley and enfolds the town of Betws-y-Coed. It stretches from Llyn Crafnant to Penmachno and offers truly panoramic scenery.

Gwydir Forest Park is home to the celebrated landscapes of lakes, forests and mountains to the generations of visitors who have walked the woodland paths and fished the clear waters of the Conwy, Llugwy, Lledr and Machno rivers since Victorian times.

Took the yellow route from Betwys y coed bridge upto Llyn e Parc. Steep to begin with but rewarded with peaceful woodlands, views and arriving at Lake just after one hour. Had a swim, lake all to myself, bliss.
