Two new drift mines, each producing an estimated 1000 tons of coal a day, and each employing about 325 men, are to be opened to supply coal for the new giant power station at Kincardine, which, if it was working now, would be the biggest under one roof in Europe.

The National Coal Board (NCB) plans to supply it from Bogside Colliery No 3, Castlehill Mine and Solsgirth Colliery via Longannet Mine at the power station. Longannet will be connected to Solsgirth by a five mile underground conveyor.

BMI provide spill kits, PPE and management plans which provide instruction for all aspects of site management including emergency response, waste management and management of chemicals onsite.

Mining the Upper Hirst coal, it comprised Bogside [NS98NE 193], Castlebridge [NS99SW 41], Castlehill [NS99SE 5], Solsgirth [NS99SE 6] and Longannet Mine [NS98NW 65] collieries, directly serving Longannet Power Station and designed to supply 10,160 tons of coal per day.

Jan 13, 2021 · The future of Solsgirth Mine, one of the biggest producers of coal in the country, hung in the balance this week in an inter-Union flare-up over safety cover. There were fears of "another Bogside," as the management, with no safety cover at the pit, switched off the power.

Aug 30, 2024 · A NEW holiday park with up to 100 lodges is to be built on the site of Scotland's last deep coal mine. Councillors approved plans to turn the old derelict Castlehill pit near Blairhall into a "high quality" leisure destination that could generate £9 million for the local economy.

Feb 5, 2025 · The plans will see a mixed-use development built at the currently vacant site in the Bogside, with a "community hub" and "essential local amenities" set to be included.
