On Saturday, a new image generator called Aurora became available for some Grok users, many of whom shared the tool’s results on X touting their photorealism. But as of Sunday afternoon, Aurora appears to be gone.

X, the Elon Musk-owned social network previously known as Twitter, quietly added a new image generator to its Grok assistant this past Saturday.

X’s Aurora AI generator briefly launched, creating images of public figures and copyrighted characters, raising ethical questions.

It was revealed by reports that Grok's Aurora is similar to the chatbot as it can go overboard with its content creation, particularly as it allows user's imaginations to run wild including graphic images and copyrighted content. That being said, Aurora avoided creating sexually graphic nudes for users.

Social media platform confirms that the Aurora model is now available to create "photorealistic rendering" in select countries.

Aurora, the new Grok based generative AI image generator was taken down after an accidental launch on Elon Musk's X.

The Grok AI chatbot on X has been limited to Premium users. However, as first spotted by The Verge, starting on Friday, free users began noticing that they had also been given access to the Grok 2 chatbot, with the ability to send up to 10 Grok messages every two hours.

Developed by xAI, the new Aurora AI image generator integrates with Grok and allows users to create detailed, photorealistic images directly from text prompts.

Like the vanilla version of Grok’s image generator, there seem to be few restrictions when it comes to the content Aurora can churn out.
