A volcano in southwestern Iceland that has erupted repeatedly for more than a year again belched lava and smoke into the air, just hours after authorities evacuated the few remaining residents of a nearby fishing village.

Officials in Iceland have evacuated homes in the town of Grindavik and nearby tourist spa resort Blue Lagoon after the area was hit by another volcanic eruption. The volcano began spewing lava shortly after residents were evacuated. Multiple earthquakes occurred in the area throughout the day, which officials took as a warning of the eruption.
