A powerful winter storm battered the Bay Area Friday night into Saturday, causing widespread issues, power outages and downed trees and flooding. Off-and-on rain and strong, gusty winds continued to hammer the region as the storm moves east.

For the first time in recorded history, downtown San Francisco was issued a tornado warning on Saturday as severe storm conditions swept through the city, prompting local authorities to warn residents of the rare threat.

A brief tornado warning alert was issued for residents in northern San Mateo County and downtown San Francisco.
