Sgt. Jacob Wolterbeek, a 41-year-old husband and father of three, died early Thursday after crashing into the rear of a box truck after the end of his shift.

The two-vehicle crash happened on the Piscataqua River Bridge that carries I- 95 from New Hampshire to Maine at approximately 1:14 a.m., according to Maine State Police.

An off-duty police sergeant was killed in a crash on a bridge that connects New Hampshire and Maine early Thursday morning, authorities said.
