BRONX, New York -- Police have made an arrest in a nearly 18-year-old cold case murder that happened in the Bronx on New Year's Eve in 2006. Ahmet Gashi, 42, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder on Friday.

Investigators said it was in 2006, just hours before the New Year, when Gashi got into an argument with 28-year-old Kemal Kolenovic of Midwood, Brooklyn. Police said Gashi got into an SUV, drove onto the sidewalk and hit Kolenovic, then drove off.

Ahmet Gashi, 42, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder on Friday in connection to a nearly 18-year-old cold case murder in the Bronx.

The suspected killer wanted for the 2006 murder of up-and-coming boxer Kemal Kolenovic was arrested in Kosovo after dodging justice for nearly 18 years. The Bronx district attorney’s office issued an international “red notice” arrest warrant for Ahmed Gashi after he was identified as living in the Balkan country,
