Major League Soccer's newest expansion team had the opportunity to select five players in the 2024 MLS Expansion Draft. Before the draft even kicked off though, San Diego FC acquired CJ dos Santos from Inter Miami and Christopher McVey from D.C. United, bringing their total number of players up to nine.

San Diego FC will play their inaugural season in Major League Soccer, but before that can take place they have to finalize their roster under new head coach Mikey Varas. While some signings such as Hirving Lozano and Paddy McNair have already been finalized to join the expansion side,

Diop, 22, is a Senegalese defender who was drafted by Charlotte FC as the No. 1 overall in MLS SuperDraft 2023. He has appeared in three MLS matches with Charlotte and is on loan with Serbia’s FK Čukarički until Jan. 15, 2025.
