A majority of Americans oppose deporting migrants who have not been convicted to El Salvador without due process, according to a new survey, as the Trump administration defends its deportation

In the 22 days since Maryland resident Kilmar Abrego Garcia was mistakenly deported to a notoriously violent prison in El Salvador, his young autistic son has sought comfort in the scent of his missing father’s clothes.

The case has raised questions not only about how the man could have ended up on a plane to El Salvador, but also about why the administration has apparently not moved to correct its mistake.
