The Justice Department late on Wednesday asked a U.S. appeals court to reject an emergency bid by TikTok to temporarily block a law that would require its Chinese parent company ByteDance to divest the short-video app by Jan.

TikTok on Monday asked a federal appeals court to bar the Biden administration from enforcing a law that could lead to a ban on the popular platform until the Supreme Court reviews the case.

TikTok asked the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit to impose an injunction that would pause its ruling on Friday, which upheld the law requiring TikTok to divest from Chinese parent company ByteDance or else be banned from U.S. app stores.
