A Juilliard-trained pianist was convicted of murder Thursday in the death of a Greer mother in 2021. He was sentenced to life in prison. Zachary Hughes admitted on the stand Wednesday that he did in fact stab Christina Parcell to death, but said there was no malice, which is required for a first degree murder charge.

Canebrake murder trial leads to more arrests, questions
Mello had a bond hearing the evening of his arrest on Wednesday but was not granted bond. It is not Mello’s first time being arrested in connection to Christina Parcell. In 2023, Mello was arrested and charged with harassment and conspiracy, for allegedly harassing Parcell months before her death.
