The Norse explorer Erik the Red arrives in Greenland with a fleet of Viking ships, according to the medieval Icelandic sagas.
He built a small artificial lake with an island, stables, rock garden, summer home and other amenities. The Vikings bought the property in about 1912 and began adding and repurposing facilities.
