Three historical attractions in Cumbria are on a list of locations being considered by English Heritage for winter closures.

Furness Abbey, on the outskirts of Barrow, Cumbria, was founded about 900 years ago and was the first of England's "greater monasteries" to be dissolved during Henry VIII's religious reforms.

In Cumbria, there are several attractions offering free entry or discounts. Carlisle Castle and Furness Abbey, both English Heritage sites, will have free entry on March 22 and March 23.
