Cillian Murphy has won best lead actor in the film category at the Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTA). Murphy, who last year also picked up the IFTA, and the Oscar, for his role in Oppenheimer, won the accolade for his starring role in the adaption of Claire Keegan's novella, Small Things Like These.

Belfast rap trio Kneecap and Troubles series Say Nothing were among the big winners at the Irish Film and Television Academy (Ifta) awards on Friday. Stars Saoirse Ronan and Cillian Murphy won for leading actor and actress in a film for their roles in The Outrun and in Small Things Like These respectively.

Cillian Murphy, who stars in and produces Small Things Like These, picked up best lead actor for the second year in a row following last year’s win for Oppenheimer. The Irish drama, which surrounds a local convent with shocking secrets, also won best screenplay for Edna Walsh who adapted Claire Keegan’s novel on which the film is based.

Members of the rap group Kneecap will compete against Hollywood superstar Cillian Murphy for a major honour at the Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTAs) on Friday. An Irish-language film about the group is nominated in 17 award categories.
