But rather than run away from the impending blaze, some 3,000 students at Pepperdine University headed toward two buildings at the heart of the 830-acre campus to shelter in place. A brush fire that broke out on Monday evening in Malibu Canyon has led to mandatory evacuation orders in parts of southern California as the fire rapidly spread.
