(Reuters) -Taiwan President Lai Ching-te was in the U.S. territory of Guam on Wednesday, his second U.S. stopover in less than a week during a tour to reinforce ties with Pacific allies in the face of increasing Chinese pressure.

Taiwan’s leader is visiting Guam in his second stop in U.S. territory on an ongoing overseas trip. President Lai Ching-te arrived Wednesday night from the Pacific Island country of Tuvalu.

Taiwan President Lai Ching-te on Thursday called on like-minded governments to "safeguard democracy" during a visit to US territory Guam, his second stop on American soil in a Pacific tour that has angered Beijing.
