Jacob Trouba was off to a slow start with the New York Rangers this season before the 30-year-old defenseman was traded to the Anaheim Ducks on Dec. 6. The now-former Rangers captain’s first three games with his new team have been a continuation of those struggles.

Trouba, who has a year left on his contract at an $8 million cap hit, did not want to leave the Rangers this summer when general manager Chris Drury was looking to alter the veteran core of the team. Trouba’s wife, Kelly, is in the final year of her medical residency at a New York hospital and Trouba did not want to uproot her.

The Anaheim Ducks have acquired New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba in a trade for defenseman Urho Vaakanainen and a future fourth-round pick, a person with knowledge of the decision tells The Associated Press.
