A 34-year-old engineer died by suicide in Bengaluru on December 9 allegedly due to harassment by his estranged wife and her family. A case of abetment to suicide has been filed against Nikita Singhania and her family members.

The notice was issued to Atul's wife Nikita Singhania, her mother Nisha Singhania, her brother Anurag Singhania and her uncle Sushil Singhania.

The plea said that because of cases of false implication of married men using these laws, the real incidents of cruelty against women are looked at with suspicion.

In the wake of the tragic suicide of Bengaluru-based software engineer Atul Subhash, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed before the Supreme Court seeking a review of dowry and domestic violence laws.

Bengaluru techie, Atul Subhash committed suicide allegedly due to torture by his wife Nikita Singhania, and in-laws, among other reasons. In his 24-page suicide note, he said that his wife had filed a complaint against him alleging harassment and assault for dowry.

A police official said that Nisha Singhania and her son Anurag alias Piyush Singhania left their home in Khowa Mandi area on a bike and have not returned since.

The mother-in-law and the brother-in-law of techie Atul Subhash, who committed suicide in Bengaluru, fled their home in Jaunpur on Thursday, even as Uttar Pradesh Police said it was yet to receive any official communication from Karnataka.
