I have only been to Slovakia in the summer. The Orava castle looks like it is open from 10:00-15:00 in the winter (closed in April) (you can click on the English flag on their website to get the English translation), but you most likely won't be able to get an English tour unless you join up with a larger group, which would require calling ahead and some luck. We were on a private "tailor made" tour with just our family and split the time with Peter B. (from near Bratislava) who gives the Best Slovakia Tours and Michal R. who is an amazing genealogist (from Presov area) who can help you find your Slovak Ancestry page and mostly is a Slovak tour guide for Day Tours. I am not allowed to give links, but I think you will be able to find them and my reviews on their website or Facebook or Tripadvisor, as well as reviews of many other private tour guides, and I think you'd be fine with anyone with pages of recommendations. I highly recommend the private tour guides because they will translate and take you to out-of-the-way places like Orava Castle and if you can get 5-6 people it will be less than a bus tour and the entrance fees to castles and museums and food are not expensive (and you don't have to worry about reading the signs and driving). The other tours my mom or I have been on have only been in the summer and I do not think they would ever take you to a place like Orava Castle because of the steep climb and it's location, but this castle is worth the journey, even if the tour is in Slovak (although my mom would argue that the bus tours take you to more places with Slovak music and if you can go in the summer you can try to catch a folk festival).
