If you’re visiting Derry you have to take a walk around the city walls. I think it’s one of the only walled cities in Ireland and the view is fantastic. We went just at the end of autumn, it was cool…Full review by Mark H

Easy walk with great views and informative text panels. Cannons are especially impressive as is how much land has been reclaimed from the riverbank.Full review by StephenRForster

Questions & answers

Q:
Are dogs allowed on lead to walk the walls ?
A:
Yes, the City Walls are dog friendly.
Q:
Is the visitor's center open on Sundays? Are the walls open to walk on Sundays?
A:
As far as I can remember, the walls are open for anyone and there doesn't seem to be a closing time. I don't know about visitor center hours, though, since I never went to one in Derry.
Q:
How long does it take to walk the full length of the walls? I’m fairly fit.
A:
We did it in well under an hour. We walked leisurely and took pictures, but it wasn't crowded when we walked.
Q:
Are there lots of stairs involved?
A:
The walk itself does not have many steps & even with average fitness is quite manageable.
Q:
Do we need a tour guide to walk the derry walls
A:
No tour guide required but it’s worth the £4 it costs. If it’s just a good walk you’re after go for it but you will miss out on the history of the city and in particular the siege of Derry
