A man charged in the shooting of his ex-girlfriend outside a daycare has been found guilty. He now awaits trial in the killing of a Sheriff's deputy.

Orlando Mitchell, a suspect in the 2023 murder of Marion County Deputy John Durm, has been convicted of another crime, the fatal strangling of his ex-girlfriend, Krystal Walton.

Testimony has concluded in the first of two murder trials against Orlando Mitchell. The suspect is accused of killing the mother of his child outside a daycare followed by the murder of a Marion County Sheriff’s deputy while in custody.

The defense has rested without calling a single witness or offering any evidence in the trial for a murder outside an Indianapolis day care on Sept. 16, 2022.
