Michigan Republicans declared they won a majority in the Michigan House of Representatives and House Speaker Joe Tate, D-Detroit, conceded the race.

Republicans have taken back control of the Michigan House, flipping the chamber they lost in 2022 and ending Democrats’ governing trifecta. Republicans will likely work to change the series of Democrat pieces of legislation implemented over the past two years,

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer will find it harder to maneuver in 2025 after Republicans took control of the state House. The GOP win forces the Democrat to negotiate or be relegated to lame-duck status her last two years in Lansing.

Two positions are open in Michigan State University's Trustees race in the 2024 November general election. Running as Democrats are Rebecca Bahar-Cook and Thomas Stallworth III. Republican candidates are Mike Balow and Julie Maday. The board has eight seats with eight-year term lengths.

The total ballots cast in Tuesday's election surpassed voter participation in the 2020 presidential election, state officials said Wednesday.
