AI-powered search engine Perplexity says it's building its own web browser. It'll be called Comet, and it's set to arrive 'soon.'

The AI search engine Perplexity announces Comet – a browser for "agentic search". There is already a waiting list.

It has recently been expanding its offerings—for example, it recently launched a deep research tool competing with similar ones provided by OpenAI and Google, as well as Sonar, an API for generative AI-powered search.

Perplexity released a teaser of its AI web browser "Comet". This browser is likely to include a new feature called Agentic Search, although the company has not yet revealed its launch date, but has started a waitlist for interested users,

Perplexity, founded in 2022, is the creator of an AI-powered search application that’s focused on providing real-time information. When prompted, it searches the web for the most up-to-date information, but instead of producing a series of links, it responds to users in a way that’s more like ChatGPT.

In a post to X on Monday, February 24, Perplexity announced Comet, describing it as “A Browser for Agentic Search by Perplexity”. Clicking through from that post allows you to sign up to be among the first to use the browser when it becomes available. There’s no word on when that will be just yet

The company is offering scant details about this browser called Comet, so I asked Perplexity AI for more information.
