The city of Portland is among a group of local governments that plan to file a lawsuit Friday challenging the Trump administration’s executive order targeting sanctuary cities. The lawsuit comes in response to steps President Donald Trump and his administration have taken to target cities and jurisdictions that don’t assist with federal immigration enforcement.

The city of Portland is joining other sanctuary cities in a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s threat to withhold federal funding from such cities. The lawsuit will be filed today in the United States District Court of Northern California and is led by the city and county of San Francisco and Santa Clara County.

Portland will now join a coalition of local governments suing the Trump administration for executive orders and actions that harm sanctuary cities and states.
