Late on Thursday night and into the early hours of Friday, the full moon turned a beautiful reddish color as it drifted through Earth’s shadow in a total lunar eclipse.

A total lunar eclipse will make the moon appear red across the Western Hemisphere during the "Blood Worm Moon" this week.

On the morning of Friday, March 14 -- the day of the full Worm Moon -- the moon will be 12 degrees above the western horizon as twilight begins at 6:23 a.m. EDT. No planets will be visible at that time, NASA said.
