The U.S. Supreme Court agreed Monday to decide the ongoing legal dispute over issues of race relating to Louisiana's congressional district map.

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Voters in Louisiana voted “yes” for one constitutional amendment on the Nov. 5 ballot.

Results timing: Officials expect that full, unofficial results will be counted before noon Eastern time on Wednesday. In nonpresidential races, if no candidate wins a majority of the vote, the top two candidates advance to a runoff on Dec. 7.

The Supreme Court ultimately upheld the Alabama ruling, prompting the creation of a new map with an additional district likely to elect a Black representative. The justices sent the Louisiana case back to federal court, signaling that revised maps should be ready for the 2024 elections.

The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear an appeal over Louisiana’s more Democratic-friendly congressional districts, though the case won’t impact this year’s election.

The case, which will not affect this election cycle, involves a legal fight over how the state draws its voting maps and could determine the political power of Black voters there.
