As the 2024 season began, there was significant excitement surrounding several young quarterbacks who were set to take on starting roles at their schools for the first time. Notable names included Nico Iamaleava from the Tennessee Volunteers, Jackson Arnold from the Oklahoma Sooners and Dylan Raiola from the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Now, one year after Slowik had emerged as a head coaching candidate interviewing with the Washington Commanders, Atlanta Falcons, Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans and Carolina Panthers and not landing any offers only to return to the Texans on an upgraded contract with a much higher salary, he’s out.

The Houston Texans have fired second-year offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, league sources confirmed to The Athletic. The move comes six days after the team’s AFC divisional round loss — its second in as many seasons — to the Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday.

For the second consecutive year, the Texans finished a regular season atop the AFC South standings but then fell in the divisional round of a postseason tournament.
