Texas Air National Guard personnel responded to Gov. Abbott's call to deploy the Texas Tactical Border Force to the Rio Grande Valley.

Governor Greg Abbott has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to deploy additional state resources, including swiftwater rescue boat squads and urban search and rescue teams. Among them is a Fort Worth Fire Rescue squad, which deployed this morning to stage in Abilene and could be moved depending on the evolving situation.

The soldiers departed Monday from Houston and Fort Worth, marking a change from the Republican governor's legal battles with the Biden administration. Abbott spent the last four years testing a state's ability to enforce immigration law — at times at odds with Border Patrol.

The state has vowed to assist the president in his efforts to revamp immigration. But Texas' biggest cities and school districts are more reluctant to help.
