Indian Railways’ Vande Bharat Express expands to 136 routes in 2024, linking major cities and regions with semi-high-speed luxury trains.

The first Vande Bharat sleeper trains are expected to start running in January 2025. However, the official confirmation on the launch of Vande Bharat sleeper trains is awaited. The rollout of the train depends on the outcome of the trial runs.

According to reports, Pune may soon see four new Vande Bharat Express trains; however, no official confirmation has come on this yet.

Ashwini Vaishnaw said that currently 10 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are under production and the first prototype has been manufactured and will undergo field trials soon.

Currently, there are three Vande Bharat Express trains that either originate from or pass through Pune. These include the Pune-SSS Hubballi, Pune-Kolhapur and Mumbai CSMT-Solapur routes. Nationwide, there are 136 Vande Bharat Express train services currently operational, significantly reducing travel time and enhancing the passenger experience.

Vande Bharat trains could soon run on high speed, achieving the long-delayed dreams of India’s first bullet train. According to Mint, Vande Bharat trains would be upgraded from semi-high speed to high-speed trains and would be run on special corridors for the round 2 of the bullet train project.

Indian Railways is gearing up to launch 200 Vande Bharat sleeper trains, aiming to redefine long-distance travel in India. The initiative follows the success of chair car Vande Bharat trains, which have received high praise for their efficiency and passenger comfort.

Indian Railways introduced a total of 62 Vande Bharat train services in the calendar year 2024 and also the first Namo Bharat Rapid Rail between Ahmedabad and Bhuj was introduced on September 17, 2024.
