NSO Group Hit with $168m Fine for WhatsApp Pegasus Spyware Abuse
On May 6, a California federal jury found that the Israeli spyware vendor owes $167.254 million in punitive damages for hacking into about 1400 WhatsApp users' devices. It will also have to pay $444,719 in compensatory damages to Meta, the owner of WhatsApp.
Meta wins $168M judgment against spyware seller NSO Group
An eight-person jury granted Meta $444,719 in compensatory damages to cover the costs of addressing the breach, plus an additional $167.25 million in punitive damages intended to discourage similar future actions by NSO, according to a court filing with the US District Court for the Northn District of California.
