Four days after the theft that law enforcement say could be tied to the sky-high cost of eggs, no leads have come in.

The eggs were stolen from the back of Pete & Gerry’s Organics’ distribution trailer on Saturday in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania State Police were hunting on Wednesday for thieves who stole about 100,000 organic eggs from a wholesaler's warehouse over the weekend, a haul worth more than $40,000 retail amid a national shortage that has caused prices to surge.

The theft of the eggs, which the authorities said were worth $40,000, comes as grocery shoppers across the country are facing empty shelves and higher prices for eggs.

Bird flu is forcing farmers to slaughter millions of chickens a month, pushing U.S. egg prices to more than double their cost in the summer of 2023. And it appears there may be no relief in sight with Easter approaching.
