The priest of a Hindu temple in the Canadian city of Brampton has been suspended for spreading "violent rhetoric" during recent clashes between protesters carrying Khalistani flags and the people present there.

Earlier, a Canadian police officer was also suspended after videos on social media showed him participating in the pro-Khalistan protest outside the temple.

Police broke up a second day of protests outside a Brampton, Ont., Hindu temple where violent weekend clashes led to arrests and added fuel to already fiery Canada-India diplomatic relations. Groups that backed Monday's demonstration suggested it was held in response to the previous day's protests at the temple by Sikh separatists who seek an independent nation called Khalistan.
