Downtown Atlanta gas leak: Fire department warns of explosion risk, buildings evacuated
ATLANTA - The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department is on the scene of what appears to be a gas leak in downtown Atlanta. Buildings in the area include the state capitol building and Georgia State MARTA Station. Street closures may be in place. It is unknown if any buildings have been evacuated or if MARTA has been impacted at this time.

A gas leak in downtown Atlanta prompted evacuations Wednesday morning at the Georgia State Capitol. Atlanta Fire Rescue spokesman Anare Holmes said a crew struck a main gas line at Piedmont Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, bordering the Capitol’s northeast side, at about 9 a.m.
