Shomari Figures, the Black Democrat running in an Alabama congressional district redrawn last year by a court order, has won the seat over Republican Caroleene Dobson, NBC News projects.

With the victory by Shomari Figures, Alabama will most likely have two Black representatives in Congress at the same time for the first time in its history.

“Alabama does not have early voting - they have two forms of absentee,” said Jefferson County Board of Registrars Chairman Barry Stephenson. “Starting at 45 days before an election, you can come to the courtroom of the county you reside in and you can vote in person or you can begin the application through mail.”
