Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, who led efforts to restructure the money-losing U.S. Postal Service for nearly five years, has resigned effective immediately, the agency said on Monday.

Louis DeJoy resigned from his role as head of the US Postal Service on Monday, leaving the independent government agency at a time when the 250-year old service faces calls for privatization and scrutiny from the Trump administration.

DeJoy had said last month he planned to step down but hadn’t set a date. Deputy Postmaster General Doug Tulino will take on the role until the Postal Service Board of Governors names a permanent replacement.
