The Standard and Poor’s 500 rose 0.4%, enough to extend its winning streak to a fourth day and to pull within 3.7% of its all-time high set earlier this year. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 271 points, or 0.6%, and the Nasdaq composite slipped 0.2%.

Stocks are edging higher in early trading on Wall Street, adding to their gains for the week. The S&P 500 was up 0.3% in the first few minutes of trading Wednesday. The index erased the remainder of its losses for 2025 a day earlier.

U.S. stocks are drifting Thursday following a jumble of mixedreports that shed little clarity on how the U.S. economy is managing through President Donald Trump’s trade war. The S&P 500 was 0.2% lower in early trading and potentially on track for its first drop of the week.
