Mount Spurr in Alaska is at a 50-50 chance of erupting soon after an unusual number of tiny earthquakes have been recorded at the site in the last 10 months

Mount Spurr, which sits about 75 miles west of Anchorage, has seen “ volcanic unrest ” for the last 10 months, including an increasing number of earthquakes, according to a Feb. 6 statement from the Alaska Volcano Observatory. The unrest suggests “that an eruption is possible,” officials said.

Ten months of unrest at Mount Spurr could be a sign of an upcoming eruption from a side vent or, less likely, from the main crater.
