Rivian’s R2 vehicles will be powered by batteries made domestically in the US by South Korea’s LG Energy Solution, the company announced in its third quarter earnings report.

South Korea's LG Energy Solution on Friday said its subsidiary LG Energy Solution Arizona has signed a battery supply agreement with U.S.-based automotive manufacturer Rivian .

LG Energy Solution will supply its cylindrical batteries equivalent to 67 gigawatt-hours to U.S. electric vehicle (EV) maker Rivian over the next five years, the battery giant said Friday.

LGES confirmed it has agreed to supply 67 GWh of its newly-developed 4695-type cylindrical battery cells to Rivian over five-year period. These batteries will be fitted initially to Rivian’s R2 model for the North American market, produced at the company’s facility in Normal, Illinois.

South Korea's LG Energy Solution has secured a landmark deal with Rivian, the US electric vehicle maker known for its rugged electric trucks and SUVs. The South Korean battery manufacturer will deliver a total of 67 gigawatt-hours worth of 4695 cells -- named for their 46mm diameter and 95mm height -- over the next five years.

South Korea's leading battery maker LG Energy Solution (LGES) said Friday it has clinched a deal to supply electric vehicle batteries to U.S. automotive manufacturer Rivian. Under the deal, LGES will provide Rivian with its advanced 4695 cylindrical batteries,
