POMPEII, Italy ( KMID/KPEJ) – A family frozen in time by the volcanic eruption that hit Pompeii nearly two millennia ago. It’s one of the many stories told by observers of the victims of the tragedy that struck the ancient town. But DNA evidence recently published in Current Biology suggests things were not as they seem.
DNA reveals new stories about Pompeii’s victims
A new genetic analysis of 14 bodies recovered from Pompeii is casting doubt on some of the initial interpretations of their identities before the cataclysmic volcanic eruption. A team of archaeologists and geneticists used a new genomic analysis to find out more about who these individuals were.
