The Corporation stated in the RTI reply that compensation amounted to Rs 1.78 lakh in 2019-20, Rs 96,000 in 2021-22, Rs 7.74 lakh in 2022-23, and Rs 15.65 lakh in 2023-24, with no compensation in 2020-21.

According to IRCTC, in case of cancellation of the train, the full fare was refunded to the passengers and in case of delay, food and water facilities were also provided to the passengers

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) officially scrapped its compensation scheme for delays in private trains, starting February 15, 2024. PTI learned this through a Right to Information (RTI) application. The scheme, which was part of IRCTC's marketing strategy to woo passengers, had been in effect since October 4, 2019.

The IRCTC has discontinued its compensation scheme for delays in private trains, effective from February 15, 2024. Between October 2019 and February 2024, Rs 26 lakh was distributed as compensation. The scheme aimed to attract passengers but has now ended for confidential reasons.

IRCTC has informed that it discontinued the scheme of giving compensation to passengers on delay in private trains five years ago.
