More than half a million Haitians in the United States will face the threat of deportation in a few months, after the Trump administration revoked an extension of Temporary Protected Status that had been put in place by the Biden administration.

The US government will end the temporary protected status (TPS) for 500,000 Haitians living in the country in August, the Department of Homeland Security said on Thursday. This comes despite deteriorating conditions in the Caribbean country,

The decision is the latest in President Trump’s sweeping crackdown on immigrants, including people whom the Biden administration had authorized to remain in the country.
