There were more than 6,549 incidents of people reporting issues with the platform as of 9:16 am ET, according to Downdetector, which tracks outages by collating status reports from a number of sources.

Instagram is down for thousands of users, according to Downdetector. The outage detection site found that just under 10,000 people reported the social media platform was not operating normally. There was a massive spike in reports from users just before 2pm on Wednesday.

Instagram is experiencing a nationwide outage, impacting the app and service connection. Users have also reported problems with Facebook.
